I not only went to college for the #1 most useless major, but I got 2 degrees in that field. My starting salary was $68K a year as an intro-level Technical Writer. My first full-time “career” job was found 4 mo. after I graduated.

That was nearly 6 years ago. 

Since then, I’ve seen nothing but an increase in my salary, despite changing companies (so it wasn’t just a fluke the first time). But to get it, I had to move to another area where I could use the degree—leaving behind a lot of my family and all of my friends (i.e. everything that comprised my comfort zone)—and I had to do my passion (creative writing) on the side. I had to compromise with myself.

I don’t want to hear about how it can’t be done. How it’s not fair you majored in something you can’t find a related job for now. Because I’m pretty sure that’s only true where you currently live. Can’t find a job using your major? Move somewhere that offers one and quite your bitching. I have empathy for you, but not sympathy. Because I did it, I know it can be done.
